Yes, that’s his name. I have nothing further to say on this.

What an amazing story. His parents boarded a train without him, and they never found each other again. Until now. It really makes me wonder how this could happen…but I’m glad he found his family!
It’s an interesting dilemma. Who owns the art you wear?
What do you think??
I didn’t get to see Ink Master last night. Oh my god, I wanted to see it so badly! Like I was a 16 year old wanting to see Johnny Rotten perform live (yeah, I wanted that all the time when I was 16. 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and probably for a few more years too). But Kiddo couldn’t sleep. She was scared. So I shed Mama Tattoo to be plain old Mama and cuddled up in her bed with her.
There’s nothing quite like sleeping with my daughter. I have to make her face the wall and not speak to me. This is an exercise in futility. She likes to “talk” to me about, well, everything. This is where she tells me that her teacher tells her to wake up during the day. It’s when she tells me her real feelings about her classmates (she does this using a scale of her 7 year old hands being spread apart or slammed together. Sometimes the hands spread apart, come together and form a heart. This I usually miss because I’ve turned the other way in an effort to ignore her. But it’s impossible. I’m sorry, look, I know how irritating it is to hear about someone’s kid, but mine is so frigging entertaining, and sweet, and funny.
I fell asleep moments after I felt the twitch. She twitches as she falls asleep. I usually wait for two twitches and then it’s safe to get up and go to the living room. I was out before #2!
So don’t tell me who won. I will watch it today after volunteering for the book fair in Kiddo’s school. My guess is that Tatu Baby will be out, that Joey will be out and that Jime will win. Coming back next year should be Kyle. I was so sad to see him go. I love Tatu Baby, but I really thought he should have been part of the final three.
I totally loved Craig, and I have to say I didn’t like the show as much once he was gone.
I’ll update when I catch up!!
This is a Facebook exchange I found on Don’t Panic. What I particularly love about this are words in the introduction – “some evidently unstable strumpet”. It’s my favorite!
Would you get the face of the romantic love of your life tattooed on you? I wouldn’t. I always think the person in that role will wake up one day and go – what??? I’m stuck with YOU?? and walk out! LOL
This tattoo of Britney is pretty amazeballs, even though I can’t understand why someone would tattoo a young person having a huge breakdown, but whatever. 🙂

So last week I got to attend the United Ink Tattoo Festival here on Long Island. It was at our local aviation museum, and I have to tell you – it was a perfect place for it! I’d never been there before, even though I live less than 20 minutes from it. The Children’s Museum next door to it – yes, that I’ve been to repeatedly.
The whole thing was so well laid out and an old classmate of mine had an amazing booth from his music store which had the absolute most gorgeous acoustic guitars I’ve ever seen. I swear I wanted to buy one, and I don’t even know how to play. Click the link if you’re interested – he’s got some very cool shit!
The rest of the layout on the first floor of the museum was just nice and easy to get through, to check out the books on the booths, and even to talk to the tattoo artists, who were all super friendly. There were people there selling jewelry, shirts and tattoo supplies as well, and as you went up to the second floor and third floor, there was original art being sold – paintings, sculpture, etc!
I went with my friend Diane, who I also know since high school, and who had an idea for a tattoo, so we got to shop around. She ultimately decided to wait and have her usual artist do the work, but seeing the reactions of the artists to her idea was in and of itself an education for me. It really does boggle my mind that one concept can be seen in so many different ways by so many different artists. It gets my blood pumping to hear what’s in an artist’s mind. I don’t get jealous of that creativity, I just admire it.
One of the highlights of the day was to meet Shanghai Kate, one of the most revered female tattoo artists on this planet. She was sweet, beautiful and generous with her time and knowledge. I’m proud to say that I bought my copy of Tattoo Nation from her and loved it. She invited me back the next day to hear her seminar, but the truth is I just didn’t have the money. It still made my whole week though!
Diane and I were talking in hushed voices as a tattoo artist was working with a woman at a booth. I mentioned to her that I would love to find a tattoo artist (in particular) to work with on a comic book concept. The artist immediately stopped the tattoo he was doing, and told me he’d be interested! I jumped for joy, we exchanged cards, and now I have to call him and see what we can create together. I’m mad excited!
I will be back with more on the specific artists that I met and spoke to, but I wanted to give you a little bit of an update in the meantime!
Who is in Seattle, or in the Seattle area that’s going to this Expo?? I would love to have pictures to share, so if you go, please think of Mama!
24 hours straight of tattooing and raising funds in a bar. You gotta hand it to her!
It’s a festival. On the Queen Mary. In California.
Great tattoo artists. Amazing car show. But, but, but….BAD BRAINS!!! DEAD KENNEDYS!!! THE STRANGLERS!!!! THE FLESHTONES!!!!
And Oh My God – IGGY AND THE STOOGES!!! It’s like a ancient pseudo punk’s DREAM. Of course, I can’t go to Cali. I have my daughter’s field day tomorrow and other, you know, mom stuff to do. But part of my heart will be on that ship, drinking tequila, getting inked and seeing the bands that helped me vent most of that crankiness out in my actual teen years!!!
This shop sounds so cool – have any of you been to either of it’s locations? One in Alhambra, and the other in Huntington Beach, CA? And the festival sounds awesome too! More on that in a bit.
How many people are graced with his art? They get to wear it for the rest of their lives, and I think that’s awesome. But sadly, Richard had a heart attack, is very ill and is in need of a triple bypass to save his life. He needs our help to get that lifesaving surgery and to deal with what comes after that operation.
firstname.lastname@example.org is his paypal address, and any and all contributions will be gratefully appreciated.
For images of Richard’s amazing work – click here. Please share and repost – this is critical.
In the meantime, I’m sending prayers and love to Richard and his family. I hope you will too. My warmest thanks to Chuey Quintanar for allowing me to share to to hopefully help this great American artist and his family. Thanks everyone!
I’m confused. Can someone help me? Doesn’t he look like an old punk? Hmmmmm….
